How much does it cost to hire an attorney?
It depends on the type of case. Personal injury cases are handled on contingency — we take a percentage of the recovery, and you pay nothing unless we win. Family law, business, and estate matters are typically handled on hourly rates or flat fees, depending on complexity. The initial consultation is always free, and we'll give you a clear fee estimate before you make any commitment.
Do I actually need a lawyer, or can I handle this myself?
Sometimes you don't — and we'll tell you that honestly if it's the case. An uncontested divorce with no children and few assets, for example, may not require full representation. But in most matters involving money, children, criminal charges, or business interests, the cost of a mistake far exceeds legal fees. The consultation is free — let us assess your situation and give you an honest answer.
What happens in the initial consultation?
You'll meet with (or speak to) the attorney most appropriate for your matter — not a paralegal or intake coordinator. We'll listen to your situation, ask clarifying questions, and give you an honest assessment of your legal position, your options, and what representation would look like. You'll leave with a clear picture of where you stand. No pressure, no obligation.
How long will my case take?
It depends entirely on the type of case, the other parties involved, and whether it resolves by agreement or goes to trial. An uncontested divorce may close in weeks. A personal injury lawsuit with disputed liability may take 1–3 years. Business disputes and criminal cases vary widely. We'll give you a realistic timeline for your specific situation during the consultation — not a generic estimate.
Is everything I tell you confidential?
Yes. Attorney-client privilege applies from the moment you consult with us, even if you don't hire us. Nothing you share in the consultation can be disclosed without your permission. Florida Rules of Professional Conduct require us to maintain this confidentiality, with very narrow exceptions that almost never apply in practice.
What if I can't afford an attorney right now?
Depending on the type of case, there may be payment options. Personal injury and some contingency matters cost nothing up front. For other cases, we offer payment plans for qualified clients. Florida Legal Aid is also available for qualifying individuals. Call us — we'll be honest about your options and won't take a case we don't think we can handle within your constraints.
