Ever try to close a pop-up and the X is so tiny, faint, or well-hidden that you accidentally click the ad?
Or to get rid of it, you’re forced to click something that says “No thanks, I prefer my business to fail.”
Those are dark patterns — design tricks used to manipulate, mislead, or bully visitors into doing what a website wants rather than what they want.
Sure, those tricks might get a temporary spike in clicks. But they also build resentment. And resentment doesn’t convert.
How you treat people online is your brand signal. A clean layout, honest navigation, and a clear way to say “no thank you” — that’s what earns trust.
