A most common website mistake I see — too many popups.
Here’s what happens: a visitor arrives at your site. Before they’ve read a single word, a popup fires. Sometimes two. They haven’t built any trust with you yet — so they close the tab.
The three versions of this mistake:
1. Popup on arrival — you haven’t earned that interruption yet
2. Multiple popups per visit – signals your goals matter more than their experience
3. Hidden close button — feels manipulative, destroys trust instantly
The fix:
✅ Wait 30–60 seconds before any popup fires
✅ Use exit-intent instead of entry-intent
✅ One popup per visit. Maximum.
✅ Make the close button easy to find
Earn the interruption before you make it.
