A page that shows scan results worked in testing, then, after a “two small cosmetic changes” update, crashed with “Cannot read properties of undefined (reading ‘eyebrow’)” on every completed scan. Error screens still worked, which hid the problem.
A Small Content Edit Deleted Half a Page’s Text and Crashed Every Completed Scan
⚡ Quick Fix (TL;DR)
The Culprit: The content tool was asked to update only three sections of the page's text file and was given only those three. It writes exactly what it is given, so the other eight sections (suggestions, fixes, upsell, hosting, email capture and more) were deleted. The page's code kept asking for them. Only the success path touched the missing text, so an error-path test passed.
The Fix: Restore the removed text from the last good version and confirm every wording is byte-for-byte the same. When a content tool replaces a file, always pass the complete document, then look at the diff stat afterward: if any lines were deleted that you did not mean to delete, stop. A short script that lists every content key the page code reads and confirms each one exists in the content file catches this before publishing.
