When the Same Video Looks Better on Production Than Staging

The observation
The same hero video appeared to behave slightly differently between the staging site and the main production site.
Unexpectedly, after the video was added to the live site, the loop appeared to work even better than it had on staging.

Why this matters
It is easy to conclude that a video file is defective when its behavior looks different in one environment.
But when the same asset behaves differently across environments, the asset itself should not automatically be treated as the only variable.

Other differences can include:
-Caching
–CDN behavior
–Browser cache state
-Optimization or compression layers
–WordPress performance plugins
-Delivery headers
-Theme or page configuration
-Differences in how the final page is assembled

What was established
The difference in behavior was genuinely observed.
What was not established was a single technical cause.
Therefore, this should remain a Field Note rather than a definitive Error Guide rule.

Troubleshooting lesson
When an identical media asset behaves differently between staging and production, compare the environments before repeatedly modifying the asset.
Record what changed between the environments and test the production-delivered file and page independently.
Do not assume that staging behavior predicts production behavior.
